No one is safe.  
An employee of the state Department of Environmental Protection is suing the agency, claiming she was unfairly demoted from her job as coordinator of a program to protect children from harmful chemicals.

The attorney representing a local couple who had three foster children removed from their care in a state ruling that was later overturned called on Gov. John Baldacci to demand the resignation of a top official involved in the matter.

Jill Cunha and her husband, Tim, had hoped to adopt the three children, but they were taken away after a teenage foster child in their care intentionally cut herself on the wrist.

Advocates for foster parents who take in some of Maine’s most difficult-to-care-for children say they are worried an upcoming overhaul to the system could cause reimbursement rates for certain foster parents to be slashed. But state Department of Health and Human Services officials say there are no current plans to cut the reimbursement rates.
